The song was written while walking across Africa. It was sent to Fort Lauderdale Florida for production by REGGAE FORCE, a team led by Bob Marley‘s bass player’s son , Grammy nominated, ASTON BARRET jnr. Backing vocals were added by ERICA NEWELL of ZIGGY MARLEY AND THE MELODY MAKERS. The Video is being shot in partnership with iconic businesses across Copenhagen and features beautiful souls from this wonderful city. The Couple in the wedding scene will be played by musicians MACK TRENCKA and SAVANNAH

This song is about choosing love above all conflict. A conscious and deliberate choice and faith in that choice. The video reflects the song. Furthermore the business structure behind it is part of a long project to bring the values of love into business, finance and the economy, so we can stop the culture of war.

History Of The Song

 HOLD ON TO THE LOVE YOU GOT is a song written by JIMMY ANDERSEN and performed by JIMEE, REGGAE FORCE, and RICA NEWELL.

 Jimmy wrote the song in 2013 while living at PENTHOUSE ON LONG BACKPACKERS in CAPE TOWN. 100 kilometers by foot later, at the BOTRIVER HOTEL Jimee proposed the production of the song to REGGAE FORCE who are based in FORT LAUDERDALE, FLORIDA, USA, as part of the promotion of Jimees walk from CAPE TOWN to CAIRO for  UNIVERSAL WATER RIGHTS. 435 Kilometers of walking later, the band sent the complete backing track to Jimmy who had by then reached HOMEBASE KNYSNA BACKPACKERS.

In 2018 while on a visit  to the USA, Jimee recruited the service of RICA NEWELL, from ZIGGY MARLEY AND THE MELODY MAKERS to add backing vocals, while he recorded the lead Vocal at POWER OUT STUDIOS in CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA.  In December 2023 the time has come to begin filming the video for the song.The video  will be directed by Jimee’s daughter AMINATA and will have scenes shot at URBAN HOUSE, HARD ROCK CAFE COPENHAGEN, CHRISTIANIA, NORREBRO, and other iconic spots across COPENHAGEN

It was really a gamechanger when the Jamaicans came on board.

It was the seal of approval.

Reggae Force just have that Wailers vibe.

When Erica Newell added the backing vocals it was the icing on the cake.

I always looked up to Erica. I saw her name alongside Sharon and Cedella on the Melody Makers albums.

So when she released her own work I was curious…cause neither Sharon nor Cedella were releasing anything and I knew their potential. From the ZMMM album POWER TO MOVE YA they showcased lead vocals on TODAY and on FALLEN IS BABYLON Cedella was on fire on PEOPLE GET READY. So as a Ziggy Marley fan I wanted to know more about Erica.

We been friends on Facebook since 2006 or something. Im crazy about her voice and expression. Nykke, my beautiful wife, paid for Erica’s vocal overdubs and financed so much of the project. She literally airlifted me out of Africa and got everything going. She is American so we really got it together in terms of Africa, America and Jamaica.

Alaina Reed was the initial mover.She responded to me and Aston responded to her and the band followed. Its a gem. I wanna see everybody get their just rewards for this product. Not just the artist but the masses of Jamaicans. I have economic strategies in mind for them. All Jamaicans.

I established Cool Mum Records and King Of Africa Publishing to be the perfect vehicle for the song.

Reggae needs its own business structure based on its own dynamics.

Just like the actual musical dynamics are different from Rock, the business dynamics can be established within the mainstream and work on behalf of the originators of the artform. It needs a business structure that reflects the goodwill and love that brought it about.

I wanna replicate that until it reaches every human on the planet…including the backpackers, hostels and hotels that accomodated me for free as I worked on the project. Its not just a song It is our triumph as an international family….so that we all can HOLD ON TO THE LOVE WE GOT.

STORY

MAIN STORY 1

A highly troubled couple with issues and a complex past decide to get married. The walk to the altar is a struggle for both as scenes from the past keep springing up in their minds. Amongst the guests they imagine old lovers, scenes and episodes. The entire ceremony is a struggle to fulfil but guests from all over the world, dressed in traditional costumes look on and encourage them to see it through to the end. They finally kiss and love wins the day.

MAIN STORY 2

Adam and Eve are in a garden just after being kicked out of Eden. To help them along, Jesus shows them a fruit which he really wants them to eat. Just as they are about to take a bite, the snake grabs it and runs off with the fruit. Adam and Eve panic.Jesus looks on calmly. Adam and Eve appeal to Jesus, but he slowly waves goodbye and walks away on the water. Adam and Eve get angry start chasing after the snake. They are joined by other Adams and Eves who chase the snake all over Copenhagen. It goes in and out of bars and restaurants .The snake outruns them all the way to the metro station and crawls under a train to the airport. Adam and Eve give up, go back home and sit down trying to comfort each other. The snake continues its journey. But Jesus is in the bushes and he prepares a sexy female snake on the other side of the runway. The snake tries to reach the sexy snake but gets smashed by the wheel of a landing aircraft. The fruit gets violently squeezed out of the snakes mouth, flies through the air and lands in Adam and Eves lap. They take a bite as the couple at the altar kiss.

Moral of the story> Snakes need love too!!!

SIDE STORY

Flashbacks by the couple to scenes in their lives as a wild musician and a stripper.

THE MARIA CHURCH or MARIA KIRKEN as it is known in Danish, is situated in the original red light district if Copenhagen, drug abuse, prostitution, petty crime and homlessness abound.

However the neighbourhood is also home to young families, and a series of hotels and one brilliant hostel… URBAN HOUSE. It is here that we will shoot a wedding scene, complete with the priest from the church, ANITA ROHWER

In as many businesess as possible in VESTERBRO we will sell the Reggae Dollar, and donate the money to MARIA KIRKEN in support of their work for homeless and challenged people.
